WordPress 2.6.4 is a malicious fake release – AVOID!

I have noticed a couple of places that a hacking group have released a version of WordPress version number v2.6.4 – this is NOT an official release and you should not download it! They have even created a fake website to trick people into downloading the files. This will make your site vulnerable to exploit by hackers and potentially put your visitors at risk.
It’s simple to avoid this kind of situation – ALWAYS visit the official WordPress site at www.wordpress.org to download the latest stable version. This will ensure you are only using the official, safe code on your website.
To be clear THERE WAS NO OFFICIAL WordPress 2.6.4 release.
There is some more information with side by side comparisons on Craig Murphy’s site. I can see how people could be tricked – the ripped of site is a reasonable effort, although there are some blinding errors and differences to the regular WordPress visitor.
