WordPress 2.6 is now available for download, codename “Tyner” after jazz pianist McCoy Tyner. The good news is that there should be very little incompatibility with plugins and I myself have already conducted three painless upgrades following the usual procedure of replacing the core files and running the upgrade script.
New features in this release are Wiki-like post revisions, so you can roll-back to previous revisions of the same post and compare differences and Google Gears integration to speed up the admin interface! Released almost a month early, it shows a solid commitment from the core dev team.
In addition to this, the new ‘press-it’ function is exciting stuff that I look forward to trying out, allowing you to share and post content to your blog quickly through browser integration. It’s got to be said – this is a big point upgrade, and certainly lays the foundations for some new exciting developments in future upgrades.
